The Lao postal service is reliable at a reasonable price. There are post offices in every provinces and almost every districts painted in yellow. Express Mail Service (EMS) which is the major express mail service provider in Lao PDR offers reliable service for sending packages abroad at a reasonable price, while other leading carriers also present, such as: DHL, FedEx and UPS. Although it is possible to send and receive mail, but all package may be needed to open to inspect its contents and duty may apply depending on the type of the contents that you are sending or receiving.

A decade ago, telecommunication in Lao PDR was disconnected from the world, exception Thailand and former USSR, and there was only one incoming and outgoing international call could be placed at the time.
